The Year of the Well-Trained Dog – Every January since 2010 the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) promotes the value of training with “National Train Your Dog Month.” As we settle into 2018, perhaps some of you are following up with resolutions or setting out to achieve new goals.
If you brought a new puppy into your home over the holidays or allowed a shelter dog to claim a place in your heart, you no doubt got the necessary supplies to meet your new pup’s basic needs.
Did you know that training and socialization are also vital components of your dog’s overall health and well-being?
You’d never bring a child into your home without having everything they need, as well as having studied for months on how to best care for that precious life. As a parent, you spend years teaching them to be respectful and well-mannered at home and when out and about.
Manners 101
As a pet parent, you basically want the same thing to be true with a hands-on approach by enrolling in a dog obedience class such as Manners 101. Not only will you and your pup bond, but you will gain the skills and knowledge to deal with normal dog behaviors. In turn, your new “baby” will be learning basic commands and manners while getting accustomed to being around people and other dogs.
Many new doggie parents don’t take advantage of the tools that are available to raise a well-adjusted pet.
Instead, they get frustrated when their new puppy continues to wet the floor or chews up the furniture; or after a year, he continues to bark uncontrollably and jumps up at every visitor. Unfortunately, this is often the reason that pets are dropped off at shelters or abandoned.
As with most things, to be successful you need the right tools. When you have those tools, along with training from experienced and qualified instructors, you learn to accomplish the task with confidence and reach your goal.
Do you want your dog to be happy, healthy, confident, and well-behaved?
Would you like to feel confident and be stress-free because your pet listens to commands and practices good manners when the doorbell rings or you are taking a walk in the park?
Do yourself a favor and invest in an established and reliable dog training class. A 6-week course will be the beginning of a lifetime of happiness for you and your pet.
